I’ve read only five other books in the Pendergast series (and two books from other series by Preston and Child) but anytime I read about this series somewhere, I feel that I should buy the whole series one day。 Therefore, I was very happy to be approved for a review copy of books 21 in this series。 Luckily there was enough information give about the main characters in this book to not be confused with who was who and what happened in earlier books。 On the contrary, I was immediately engrossed in I’ve read only five other books in the Pendergast series (and two books from other series by Preston and Child) but anytime I read about this series somewhere, I feel that I should buy the whole series one day。 Therefore, I was very happy to be approved for a review copy of books 21 in this series。 Luckily there was enough information give about the main characters in this book to not be confused with who was who and what happened in earlier books。 On the contrary, I was immediately engrossed in the story, which is a mixture of a thriller and science fiction。 For me as a fan of science fiction the concept of time travel and multiple universes is not new, and Preston and Child weave everything together in a very attractive way。 There are two main stories here, with Pendergast and Constance in one, and Armstrong Coldmoon and Vincent D’acosta in the other。 I won’t be surprised though, if the two stories would intertwine somewhere in the next book。 Yes, the next book, because the story isn’t finished yet。 I’m eagerly awaiting this because the mixture between time travel and multiple universes is very cleverly done。 And then there is Constance, fierce and loyal, and Dr。 Leng, a creepy ‘doctor’ if there ever was one。 Brilliant! Thanks to Netgalley and Aria & Aries for this review copy。 。。。more

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing, the authors, and NetGalley for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review。 This book will be released on January 17, 2023。At the end of Bloodless, we saw Constance disappear into late 1800s New York City, hellbent on preventing the deaths of her siblings and stopping Enoch Leng—Pendergast’s serial killer ancestor, introduced in Cabinet of Curiosities—once and for all。 Now she is beginning to execute her plan。 Meanwhile, Pendergast is seeking a way Thank you to Grand Central Publishing, the authors, and NetGalley for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review。 This book will be released on January 17, 2023。At the end of Bloodless, we saw Constance disappear into late 1800s New York City, hellbent on preventing the deaths of her siblings and stopping Enoch Leng—Pendergast’s serial killer ancestor, introduced in Cabinet of Curiosities—once and for all。 Now she is beginning to execute her plan。 Meanwhile, Pendergast is seeking a way into this alternate past NYC himself, and Armstrong Coldmoon investigates the theft of several indigenous artifacts swapped for fakes, which leads him to a very familiar museum, and a very familiar NYPD officer…Hot。Damn。That’s me, fresh off the ending, which is a hell of a cliffhanger。 Seriously。 I don’t know how Doug and Linc are going to explain this one, but I thoroughly look forward to seeing them try (and, knowing them, succeed)。 And that part, shockingly, I can wait for。 What I CAN'T wait for is the wrap up of Coldmoon and D’Agosta’s case, which we unfortunately don’t get the conclusion of and which I enjoyed just as much—maybe sometimes more—than the 1800s segments of the story。 These authors don’t just include subplots without tying them all together in the end, and so I am really eager to see how the murders of a curator and a Lakota artist are related to Leng。 And, perhaps, someone else…? This is all pure speculation, of course。 And maybe the case isn’t related to the 1800s timeline! But I would be very surprised to learn they’re entirely separate。Enough about the ending。 One of the things I was most interested in about this book was the prospect that the adult Constance would succeed in rescuing her sister, Mary, and that we would get a glimpse at her as a person。 Every mention of Mary in the past has been almost… deified or romanticized, in a way, since Constance was so young when her sister died, and as readers we’ve only ever seen her idealized childhood recollections and not Mary herself。 I won’t give anything away, obviously, but we do get a bit of a glimpse at Mary; it wasn’t quite as much as I’d hoped for, and not enough to fully explore her character, which was unfortunate, but I still liked what we got。 As for the modern track—I think I’m in the minority here in finding it more interesting than the historical bits, but then my mother is always shocked that Cabinet is not my favorite installment in the series—my absolute favorite thing happened when D’Agosta realized who Coldmoon’s former partner was。 The dawning realization was just too good。 And again, I’m so invested in the contemporary crime。 All my notes regarding the investigation are full of theorizing and all-caps reactions as one avenue after another is closed off。 (My favorite reads: “WHO IS RESPONSIBLE”。)Between Bloodless and The Cabinet of Dr。 Leng, I feel like the weird ingenuity and bizarre cases that made me fall in love with the series are back in full force。 I’m completely ready to volunteer in whatever capacity Doug and Linc need that will enable them to write as fast as the wind to complete the next book。 Thanks for the apology regarding the cliffhanger, guys。 We love and forgive you。 。。。more

I’ve enjoyed all the novels in the Pendergast series by Preston & Child, some more than others。 Their latest in the series, book 21, The Cabinet of Dr。 Leng has to be one of my favorites! The merging of both timelines and multiple storylines was perfect and it was great to have most of the characters back together- Pendergast, Constance, D’Agosta, Coldmoon and others。 Yes, there’s a cliffhanger, but if you must that was the most unexpected one! Can’t wait to read the next one。

Once again, the Pendergast series did not disappoint。 And bringing back old characters after a long absence is always refreshing, especially seeing them interact with the newly introduced ones。 My only qualm in this one is that since I generously received a galley, I now have to wait for the next to come out。 Highly recommend this series - readers are in for a treat, but also a long ride as this is the 21st installment!

I’m only sad at this point to be caught up in the series without another book to dive into。 I absolutely loved this book and enjoyed seeing Coldmoon and D’Gosta’s cases bring them together and ultimately to their shared friend: Pendergast。 Somehow everyone good, bad and in between from the Pendergast universe makes an appearance (those alive of course) and it’s chilling。 So many threads woven together but left dangling in the wind and I am dying for the next book。 I will be on pins and needles until I get answers 😵💫😵💫 。。。more

Well he’s been dispatched to the freezing death of a museum curator。 How are all these things connected? And what of Pendergrasts connection as well as Constance Greenes connection to the infamous serial killer Dr。 Leng? Well jump in this express train through the multiverse of time travel to follow all the strings and leads that will have you finding friends old and new, and ending with a cliffhanger you won’t see coming。 This is definitely one you don’t want to miss if you’re a Preston and Child’s fan。 It’s definitely best to read this series in order in order to avail yourself of all the characters pasts and intricate relationships, but it can be read alone … if you like jumping in and figuring out the backstory as you go。 Thank you so much to #NetGalley, the publishers, and of course the talented writing team of Preston and Child for extending an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion。 This is a great way to start your new year in January of 2023! Happy reading my friends! 😊 。。。more
Pat Dupuy,
Can you change the past? That's what Constance Greene is attempting to do。 This story picks up where Bloodless ends。 I hadn't read Bloodless but I am remedying that now! Pendergast is still a fascinating character and I really need to catch up on the series。 Can you change the past? Or if Leng is killed? If there are infinite universes and Constance alters one。。。who cares? I'm more interested in whether Pendergast can save her and get back to his own timeline。 Preston and Child have been very hit and miss for a while now。 Unfortunately you can throw this one in the miss pile。Thanks to Netgalley for the advance review copy。 。。。more

Sarah,
I greatly anticipated the release of this book! After the cliff hanger in "Bloodless", I was anxious to know what happened next。 "The Cabinet of Dr。 Leng" picks up at the point that "Bloodless" ends with Constance having successfully traveled back to New York City in 1880。 This book focuses on Constance, her history and family, and the dark side of 1880 New York。 It is a thrilling, time-traveling adventure as only Preston and Child can deliver。 If it has been a while since you have read "Bloodle I greatly anticipated the release of this book! Julia,
The writing team of Preston and Child is one of my favorites。 I love the Pendergast series and also the standalone novels they both write。 This book continues right where the previous one, Bloodless, left off。 Constance has gone into the past and Pendergast is obsessed with finding her。 There is also a Native American mystery with Agent Coldmoon which involves forged artifacts。 I enjoyed the Coldmoon storyline and would love to see a book staring him。 The forging of native artifacts is fascinati The writing team of Preston and Child is one of my favorites。 I love the Pendergast series and also the standalone novels they both write。 This book continues right where the previous one, Bloodless, left off。 Constance has gone into the past and Pendergast is obsessed with finding her。 There is also a Native American mystery with Agent Coldmoon which involves forged artifacts。 I enjoyed the Coldmoon storyline and would love to see a book staring him。 The forging of native artifacts is fascinating to me, and Coldmoon is such a great character。 The story with Coldmoon did not really have anything to do with the Pendergast story。 It just seemed like a way to add more pages to the book。 I do not really like the time travel aspect of the story, but I still found myself involved the storyline。 I really came into this series for the mysteries, and that is still my favorite part。 It was nice to see Constance come up against a worthy opponent in Dr。 Leng。 Sometimes she seems so self assured that it feels like she can do no wrong, so it is nice to see her get her comeuppance。 And once again it is Pendergast to her rescue, even if he needs to reinvent time travel to do so。 The story ends in a cliff hanger, which I felt was a bit of a cop out。 Why drag this out? I enjoyed this book and plan to continue reading the series but would love a return to the FBI cases rather than the family dynamics。 I received a free ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more
OutlawPoet,
Oh, you naughty authors! That ending was…everything! This is a wonderful addition to the series。 You have the return of some past characters, a truly heartbreaking story with Constance (I know some of you hate our lovely sociopathic beauty but you’re wrong), Pendergast and his oddly stiff emotional feels, and lots and lots of Proctor (butler/bodyguard/zaddy lol!) – yes I like Proctor。Readers should know that the book does end on a cliffhanger (sorry), but it’s a logical and exciting one and I sim Oh, you naughty authors!
